Re: WIP Concept Competition 1 - Phale [ Daniel Clayton ]
Not bad, the ratios between steam and cyber punks is fairly even. And overall, a quality piece of artwork.
The only thing I might fault you on, is the gear that we can see the most of, on the second tube. It almost feels like it was arbitrarily placed there in order to have a bit more steampunk. It also appears to draw unnecessary attention to the area, as opposed to the somewhat linear style of the image otherwise, but perhaps this is what you were going for.
I'm not sure what, if anything, should be done to overcome this.

Re: WIP Concept Competition 1 - Phale [ Daniel Clayton ]
Splendid! The stasis capsules is heavily cyberpunk but the tank and the environment have a distinct steampunk style. The choice of colour also seems very relevant. The techno neon-green and the golden brass creates a very unusual color palette, which i think fits the brief rather nicely. I think the base of the tank could use some more refinement, right now they have no strength in their form. The image will also benefit greatly by hving more contrast in its lighting. Also, since the tanks are green, it should emit a green secondary illumination for the ambiet. My 2 cents Looking forward to what you can do with it!

That's pretty much the only flaw I really picked up on and it stood out quite massively for me... Also, it looks sort of... rotated strangely (as in- it looks like it's facing into the chamber a little more than it should) I don't know how to say that any better, but yeh... The gear lol

Nice scene, dude. I, like others, enjoy the color palette.

Re: WIP Concept Competition 1 - Phale [ Daniel Clayton ]
ok new update on wip. taken on the advice i saw in time, and more feedback will be sweet. haven't played with effects or layer fills / screens, contrast edits, all that jazz. this is the raw paint up. few changes to note: - added bit more detail to tanks, changed the perspective of the gears (i see what u ment piman and others and i agree. .), and added heaps more glow and lighting. hope u enjoy, and let us know what u think needs changing

Re: WIP Concept Competition 1 - Phale [ Daniel Clayton ]
That is fucking awesome. Any chance you'll be able to upload the final product in wallpaper sizes? Criticism wise, the only thing I'd say is with the new one, the shafts of light coming around the dude don't look right, just it would be more of a constant field all the way around, rather than a few really tight beams. Not sure exactly how you'd paint that, but that's why I'm not an artist :p

Re: WIP Concept Competition 1 - Phale [ Daniel Clayton ]
I can't say I don't like it, but I prefer the previous ones because of the strong use of lines and perspective. The gas in the latest one breaks that up, and also covers the gears that you went to effort to change earlier.

Re: WIP Concept Competition 1 - Phale [ Daniel Clayton ]
Gonna agree that I'm not completely sold on that steam, but it still has potential. At the very least, it's fixed the issue with the lighting i mentioned ^^^ up there, so keep that bit if nothing else. I think the steam might work being more transparent and slightly lighter, but duller than the other green (alpha-,value+,saturation-).
Still looks hot.

Re: WIP Concept Competition 1 - Phale [ Daniel Clayton ]
m i agree. steam gives it more detail and life but atm its looking crap. it added to the depth aswell, so to compensate i've added heaps more shadows. nyway i'll upload later

Re: WIP Concept Competition 1 - Phale [ Daniel Clayton ]
ok, nearing the end, ty for patience with this longass wip. more sutble steam this time round, its alot darker, heavier contrasts and more shadows. as for the design i'm fairly set in stone for the scene, only edits now would be effects, fills, minor detail tweaks. other than that, this is close as it gets. and i know its signed, thats for my own personal use .

Re: WIP Concept Competition 1 - Phale [ Daniel Clayton ]
That is looking very well designed. I do see a fair bit of cyberpunk in the style of the tanks, and I cane see some steampunk style is present as well, especially on the side how I can see cogs and defenitely in the colour used.
